Belief Beyond Boundaries
In the Bible, one of the main ways God speaks to us is through dreams. Through the symbolism in our dreams, we sometimes find messages of wisdom to help us work through challenges in our waking life, but when we have disturbing dreams, like nightmares, how do we begin to confront them, let alone find wisdom?
Did you know though that some nightmares can actually signify a good thing? When you become spiritually awakened, it can actually trigger nightmares. When you begin to transition to a new mental state, these nightmares can make you aware of how your mind perceives a change in your reality. By viewing a dream as threatening, you are being made aware that you no longer jive, or shouldn't jive, with certain ideas or paradigms.
For instance, I once had a dream where I was in a hotel with many hallways going all over the place. The wallpaper was the color of blood and the environment felt very threatening to me. Everyone in the hotel was having a great time, though! They were drinking, partying, and doing who-knows-what behind closed doors. However, as I was looking for my room, I was feeling stressed out that I could not find one. As I searched and searched, I became aware of everything people were doing in the hotel and no longer wanted the room I had reserved. I woke up feeling very disturbed by the images I saw, but it became apparent to me that the dream had a vital message for me. There is no need to look for a room there, because I will never feel at home at that inn. I realized that God was validating to me that, as his child, even though there may be corruption and evil around me, He will not allow me to find rest, even if it means getting a little lost before finding what He has in store for me. A true shift had occurred and I internalized it.
When you have frightening nightmares, it can also serve as a warning. Perhaps you haven't yet done the spirit work needed to overcome a threat to your spiritual potential. Many times, it is a behavior or mentality you have allowed to run amok, hence why there are so many monsters and scary entities in nightmares. These monsters are a reflection of a habit you've let grow out of control. Depending on the additional symbolism in the dream, it may very well warn you of what exactly you need to be working on. Feeling scared or threatened could indicate it is time for change, which may not be an issue since the threat provides some level of motivation.
