Remember that Christians, just like Muslims, Jewish, Agnostics, Atheists, etc are just people at the end of the day. Just because someone is Christian, doesn't mean they are exempt from dysfunction. As a Christian, I have to remind myself that I cannot be deterred because I don't agree with how other Christians are. The only thing I can do is try and be the Christian that I would want to see other people be like. In my mind, I see that as someone who is forgiving, non-critical, caring, loving, and generous. In the end, I get to experience the peace that being a Christian brings me such as when I'm doing something kind for others, or volunteering, helping someone out or knowing that the Lord will bring me through the storms, along with all the supernatural awesomeness that happens.
Without God, it's like living in a black and white world. Everything that happens has a definite reaction and running from fear is a common occurrence. When your heart starts to change and God is introduced into the picture, suddenly the colors get brighter. Your heart starts to feel fuller, you start doing kind things for others that you didn't expect you could, and then your joy grows. Just calling yourself a Christian doesn't do this for you. You have to act as a Christian and follow the advice Jesus gives us, which is mostly to love others...and keep loving, no matter what. Even when people persecute you, just keep loving. If someone who calls themselves a Christian is stabbing you in the back, manipulating you, and doing mean things, you might want to ask if they are actually a Christian who is following the teachings of Christ. Just because you believe Jesus existed or you used to go to church as a kid, doesn't mean you are a Christian. A true Christian should leave you feeling refreshed and renewed or they are not doing their job :) |
