8 Tips to Unleash the Power of Prayer Now

Picture
(2/20/19) Over the years, I have talked to many Christians who struggle with prayer. They feel like their prayers aren’t getting answered, that God isn’t listening. When I hear this, it always surprises me. It surprises me, because I see the Lord work in my life day after day, delivering small miracles to me and assisting me in my walk. Over time, I feel as if the Lord has given me great insight into prayer and what it takes for effective prayer to happen. I would like to share these 8 tips to improve your prayer life.

List Out Your Struggles
Aside from small prayers you pray throughout the day, take some time today to sit down and write out exactly what prayers you want answered. This helps you focus on what it is that you are needing. It also provides a record that you can look back at later to determine which prayers have been answered. Some people have prayer journals, others simply take note on a sheet of paper for later.

Visualize the Power of the Holy Spirit
Often when I pray, I focus by visualizing the Holy Spirit’s power going to work. For instance, if I am requesting healing for a person. As I pray, I see a magnificent white light pouring over that person, enveloping them, getting into every part of their being. I visualize that white light healing the affected area and visualize the person’s relief as they are healed. I visualize their illness leaving the body as the white light moves in and replaces that illness.

Sometimes I envision the following bible verse:

Luke 8:43-48
43 And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all her living on physicians, she could not be healed by anyone. 44 She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, and immediately her discharge of blood ceased.45 And Jesus said, “Who was it that touched me?” When all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the crowds surround you and are pressing in on you!” 46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me, for I perceive that power has gone out from me.” 47 And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. 48 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.”

I love envisioning this verse so much! In my mind, I picture the person in need of healing touching the fringe of his robes and receiving that healing. I sincerely believe that even the vision of this act can heal a person.

Expect the Unexpected
Part of effective prayer happens through faith. This means that if you are praying, you must believe that the Lord will provide for you. Many times, I will thank the Lord for delivering the answer to my prayers even before I have received it! Do not be deceived into thinking that you must be Holy or without blemish or anything special to receive the Lord’s blessings. The Lord is so pleased that you honored His presence by asking in the first place.

Matthew 6:26 - Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Matthew 21:21-22 - And Jesus answered them, Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.

Smile. Your Prayer Has Been Received
I always think it is important to smile after I bring a request before the Lord. There is a power in smiling that, I believe, releases, because it is an act of gratitude, kindness, and love. It is an affirmation from the soul that your request is meaningful to you. I believe God loves to see us smile.

Now Give It Time
I would love to say that prayers are answered instantly, but often they are not. This is why it is important to write down the prayers you pray. It can be easy to let your prayers get answered and then forget that you prayed for it. It is so important to review your past prayers for this very reason and that is so you can thank God for each and every answered prayer.

Be Persistent!
The Lord in Luke 18:1 teaches us in the Parable of the Persistent Widow that, just as a judge heard the persistent cries of a widow in need, won’t he surely give us justice when we cry out to him day and night?

Don’t be afraid to ask for anything!
There is honor in asking for whatever it is you desire. The Lord is so pleased that you even took the time to acknowledge His presence. Though the bible states that our requests must be in line with His will for our prayers to be answered, it is not up to us to determine if we should pray based on what we think God’s will is. Pray for everything that is hurting you! Though your request may not line up with His will, who is to say the Lord won’t deliver something WAY better to you that is even better than the request you made? The Lord seeks to bring us absolute spiritual joy.

Prayers of Thankfulness
It is incredibly important to pray prayers of thankfulness. When you thank God for what he is delivered, it shows Him that you are committed to your faith by acknowledging Him and giving Him credit for what He has done. It also puts your heart in a state of thankfulness, thus increasing the Lord’s blessings exponentially.

The Power of Prayer
Know that you are a divine being. The Lord has created you for good works beyond your wildest imagination and prayer is the key to your destiny. Every prayer you pray invokes an unimaginable power that is so great, you could equate it with the power of an atom bomb, touching and affecting all of those in its path. Are you ready to access the power only your imagination can possibly conceive? Your Father is waiting for you. Go speak with him today.
